Prep and Paint: Getting Red Barn Right

How We Finish Red Barn: 3 Pro Tips
Tint the primer, or plan on a third coat. Red Barn won't cover evenly over standard white or gray primer without visible variation. We have the primer tinted toward the finish color at the paint counter, so two finish coats produce an even field. Skipping this step shows up as banding under directional light within the first week.
Keep the roller direction consistent. On a dark, saturated wall, the direction of the final roller pass shows in raking light once the paint cures. We finish with consistent full-height vertical strokes, edge to edge, each pass slightly overlapping the last, so the wall reads flat and uniform in any light.
Expect it to dry darker than it goes on. Deep colors look noticeably lighter and brighter while wet. We show the dried chip next to a wet sample on a scrap board in the room and confirm the dried color before the second coat, so there are no surprises.
